The thirteenth significant release of Apple’s Mac operating system is macOS Sierra (version 10.12). When it was released in September 2016, it was a significant turning point since it signalled Apple’s switch from the “OS X” name standard to “macOS”, bringing its desktop software branding into line with iOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
Users required a Mac running OS X El Capitan or earlier, 8.8GB of storage, and at least 2GB of RAM to operate macOS Sierra.
Essential Elements & Enhancements
Siri Integration:
The Mac desktop now has Apple’s digital assistant for the first time. Siri may be used by users to identify destinations, send messages, search for files, and change settings.
Universal Clipboard:
With the Universal Clipboard, users could easily copy text, photos, or videos from a Mac to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that was close by.
Auto Unlock:
All consumers had to do was wear a nearby, verified Apple Watch to automatically log into their Macs.
iCloud Desktop and Documents:
Files on a Mac’s desktop and in the Documents folder were automatically synced to iCloud, enabling access from other Apple devices or the iCloud Drive application.
Optimised Storage:
Provided intelligent file management capabilities to free up disc space by removing unnecessary app caches, cleaning garbage, and storing older data in iCloud.
Apple Pay on the Web:
Customers could use Touch ID on their iPhone or an Apple Watch to verify online transactions made through the Safari browser on their Mac.
